Purposeful inflammation

Prolotherapy (Proliferative Therapy) is a recognized orthopedic procedure that stimulates the natural inflammatory process needed for healing injured joints and connective tissue. When ligaments or tendons are stretched or torn, the joint they are holding destabilizes and can become painful. Prolotherapy can directly address these weakened sites and produce new collagen tissue, potentially resulting in permanent stabilization of the joint. Once the joint is stabilized, pain usually resolves. The injection solution is essentially sugar water that is purposefully irritating to the tissue and stimulates a potent healing response. This encourages growth of new, normal ligament or tendon fibers, resulting in a tightening of the weakened structure.
